The famous “I Have A Dream” speech by Martin Luther King, Jr.
“… I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
"I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice….”
Dr. King didn’t only appeal to the brain by plainly saying things like, “the advantages of what I proposes are ......., and if you don’t do as I say you certainly will ......”
Most importantly, the great public speaker appealed to the heart by pointing at hopes in the future that should have happened and is possible indeed. A great piece of communication can change history, and let its user outshine everyone else in the hall of fame.
King's delivery of the speech on August 28, 1963, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement. Delivered to over 200,000 civil rights supporters, the speech is often considered to be one of the greatest and most notable speeches in human history and was ranked the top American speech of the 20th century by a 1999 poll of scholars of public address.
